I have very fond memories of Mercer: his sense of humor, his willingness to talk about virtually anything, and his smarts. And his adventuresome spirit! I especially remember (I hope I have this right) one day in the 8th (?) grade when Mercer, being late to school and being blocked by a train stopped on the tracks, crawled under a freight car. That was bad enough, but he was followed by Pepper (Stowers)! I thought people at school were going to call in the GBI!
